A brief history

We were formed in 1938 as one of the founding sections of The Westland Sports and Social Club which, at that time, was only open to employees of Westland Aircraft.

The club range was opened in March 1940 and within a few months, following the suspension of all civilian club shooting due to WW2, the club and all it’s equipment was handed over to The Home Guard for training purposes. Civilian club shooting recommenced in 1945.

The range was rebuilt in the early 1970’s and a club room added. This was on the site of the original 1940's range and it is the building we now have.

Over the years, the connection to The Company has been relaxed and membership is now open to anybody who wishes to take up target shooting as a pastime.

In recent times The Company has withdrawn from the running of the complex and it is currently operated under the control of Somerset Council.
